Theme: My new theme from Mrs. T's class, for this semester is about monsters that is very truthful, something that people would most likely be afraid of, to deny, etc. A truth that can clear things that may not be what it seems. Anything can be anything as long it's all but lie. It's based on the actions that involves with cause and effect.
Artist as influence: What inspires me to have this new theme is Ito Junji, a artist who draws horror and gruesome comics with horrific supernatural themes, but a man who has a kind and friendly personality. Him and his arts really hit me thinking how he's kinda like Hayao Miyazaki (who used to own Ghibio Studios) who was very grumpy man with neative thoughts but an artist who draws light, heartwarming, child, fantasy movies with moral lessons. It's crazy how we can imagine who's the artist/author/director is by judging the books instead of knowing who they are as person, so it inspires me to draw a truthful monster because the word of "truth" is positive and light, while the word "monster" is a red flag and dark.
Medium: Mostly on pencils, pens and maybe/or color pencils because it's easy to draw physically and I enjoy drawing with simple tools. However, I would like to use digital because I want to improve more.
Color or Black and White: Both, because I'm planning to use black and white as an frightening, gloom, etc. and I was thinking that maybe I'll add some few colors to bring interest to the audience as it would "blend" my theme.
Techniques: It can be any kind, because what's good of making one thing when you can make more.
Path
Senior X Research:
This first piece is about a "Giant Owl Monster" that is staring at "The Character", who's walking to a path and choosing which measurement length to step on. Where they are now is in the trial with a theater seats with the audience watching the show. As I mention in my theme, it's about the truth and while the owl are usually symbolize wisdom, they are symbolize of knowledge. I wanted my piece to be less normal to objects that would connect the meaning, so I combine both street light and the measurement length as its light makes the big focus on the character but I also want to cover the blank space. The style I used are really inspired by Ito's artwork with black and white because I feel like it makes it intense to the whole picture. I enjoy making the black character because I admire of each race's unique facial expression with every features, shapes and sides, but most importantly I want to give the black community some spotlight.
